Safety Recall

Empower Brands, LLC (“Empower Brands”, “us” or “we”) is a leading provider of home essentials. We take pride in providing our valued customers high-quality products that are safe for their intended use.  We are issuing this recall notice because we have received reports that under certain conditions some of the BLACK+DECKER® Model HGS011 Easy Garment Steamers can expel hot water instead of steam, which may pose a burn hazard.

We put consumer safety first.  In partnership with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), we are voluntarily recalling BLACK+DECKER® Model HGS011 Easy Garment Steamers with date codes date codes 102ZJ through 210ZJ located on the plug blades.

In this recall we are sending consumers a replacement upper assembly of the steamer that they can easily substitute for the original upper assembly. This resolves the potential issue.
We stand behind our products, appreciate the trust our customers put in us and sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause.

This Recall Affects BLACK+DECKER® Steamer Model # HGS011, HGS011F, HGS011S

  • The Easy Garment Steamer was available for sale at retail stores nationwide, or online at various retailers, including Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart and other online retailers from June 2021 through March 2022.

  • This recall affects only certain date codes. Check the date code stamped on the power plug blade. The date code will be three numbers followed by ZJ. If the number is less than 211 (i.e. 210ZJ), your steamer may be affected by this recall. If the number is 211 or greater (i.e. 211ZJ, 214ZJ, 220ZJ) then your steamer is not affected by this recall.


    If you have a steamer that is affected by this recall, immediately stop using the recalled steamer.
