Blenders

Q. Why can’t I remove the jar base from the jar?
A. A vacuum has been formed. Place the jar on the blender and turn counterclockwise until jar is released from the base.

Q. Why is the blender jar leaking?
A. Gasket is either missing or not in place properly. Check that jar is assembled correctly.

Q. Why won’t the blender turn on?
A. Appliance might not be plugged in OR jar might not be positioned correctly on the base. Check that appliance is plugged into a working outlet AND that the jar is positioned correctly on the base.

Q. Why is my blender not blending?
A. There might not be enough liquid in the blender OR you have too much ice. Turn blender off and use a rubber spatula to redistribute the food; add some liquid and pulse the mixture to aid in the blending process. Helpful Tip: When filling the jar, add liquid first.

Q. Why are herbs or bread sticking to sides of blender and not getting chopped?
A. Blending jar, food to be chopped and/or blades are not dry. Make sure that the jar, blades and food to be chopped are dry.

Q. What causes the jar to separate from jar base when it's removed from blender and liquid to spill onto counter?
A. Jar was twisted when being removed from base of blender. When removing jar from blender base, simply lift up; do not twist.

Q. Can I crush ice in my blender even if it doesn’t have the ice crush feature?
A. Yes, process in small batches, using the highest speed available and pulse until you get the desired texture.

Q. When do I use the pulse function?
A. The pulse function is helpful when short bursts of power are needed, such as when preparing any thick smoothies or milkshakes and chopping nuts or vegetables to make salsas. Press the Pulse button for no longer than 5 seconds, then release. Let the blades come to a complete stop and repeat. Using this method 2 to 4 times will help thick mixtures blend easily.

Q. My blender stopped in the middle of blending. What happened?
A. Your blender has a motor overheat protection system that will automatically shut off the blender when it has been running too long with a heavy load. If this happens, unplug the blender and wait 10-15 minutes to allow the motor to cool down. Plug in the blender and resume blending.

Q. The blender does not seem to be blending well. The ingredients in the jar don't seem to be moving. What can I do?
A. When ingredients splatter onto the sides of the jar or the mixture is very thick, press OFF button to turn appliance off. Remove the lid and use a rubber spatula to scrape down the sides of the jar and redistribute the food, pushing the food toward the blades. Put the lid back on the jar and continue blending.

Q. Are there recipes available?
A. Yes. Please visit the Recipes section of this website.

Q. Can I wash blender parts in the dishwasher?
A. You can wash removable parts by hand or in the dishwasher. Place the jar on the bottom rack and the rest of the parts on the top rack only.

Helpful Cleaning Tip:

  • For a quick cleaning, combine 1 cup hot water and a drop of liquid dish soap in the blender jar.
  • Cover and blend on lowest speed for about 30 seconds.
  • Discard liquid and rinse thoroughly.

Important:

  • Do not place the jar parts in boiling liquids.
  • Do not immerse the base in liquid. Wipe the unit base with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  • Remove stubborn spots by rubbing with a damp cloth and nonabrasive cleaner.

Citrus Juicers

Q. My juicer has a small and a large cone. What types of fruits should use with each cone?
A. The small cone is recommended for small fruits such as lemons and limes the large cone for larger fruits such as oranges and grapefruits.

Q. Do you have to drink the juice right away or can you make batches and store in the refrigerator for later use?
A. It is best to drink the juicer right away after making it. This ensures that you receive the most nutrients and vitamins. If you want to store juice, we recommend storing it for no longer than 24 hours.

Q. How do I use the strainer?
A. Shift the tab on the strainer to select the amount of pulp you would like in your juice.

Q. How do I prepare the fruit for juicing?
A. Wash and dry the fruit. Cut in half and place the cut side down on the cone of juicer. Press down on the fruit to start the juicing action.

Q. My juicer changes direction if I release pressure. Is this normal?
A. Each time pressure is released, the juicer stops rotating. When you re-apply pressure, the juicer will then move in the opposite direction. For best results, release pressure occasionally and allow blades to reverse; this maximizes the amount of juice extracted from the fruit.

Q. How do I clean my juicer?
A. Always unplug the appliance before cleaning or when not in use. Immediately rinse the cone and strainer with water after each use. Use hot, soapy water to wash all removable parts (cover, cones, strainer and container) or place them in the dishwasher — top rack only. Use a bristle brush to remove fine pulp that may remain on the strainer. Wipe the base with a damp cloth or sponge do not immerse in water or place in the dishwasher.

Food Processors

Q. Why won’t the food processor start?
A. It might be that the appliance is not assembled correctly. For your protection this appliance has an interlock system. The processor will not operate unless the workbowl, cover and wide-mouth feed chute are properly locked in place.

Q. Can the food processor crush ice?
A. No, it is not recommended to use the food processor to crush ice as it may damage the blades or the workbowl.

Q. When should I use the PULSE function?
A. Use PULSE for short processing tasks. It gives you better control when chopping, mincing, mixing and blending foods.

Q. Can I process liquid, if so, how much?
A. You can process hot, but never boiling liquids. Do not process more than ¾ cup liquid in the small workbowl and 3 cups liquid in the large workbowl at one time. To process meat, use no more than ¾ cup in the small workbowl and 2 cups of ¾-inch cubes. Process using PULSE (P) in 5-second intervals.

Q. Why is food chopped unevenly?
A. Workbowl is overfilled. You may be running the bowl continuously instead of on Pulse. Food may be cut in random sizes. Use the Pulse button in 5-second or shorter intervals. Allow the blades to stop completely before pressing the Pulse button again. Cut food in same size pieces before placing in processor.

Q. Why is liquid leaking from the bottom of the workbowl?
A. There might be too much liquid in the workbowl. Process smaller amounts. When processing liquids, do not add more than 3 cups to workbowl.

Q. Why are sliced foods uneven or slanted?
A. The feed chute has not been well packed or uneven pressure has been applied to the food pusher during processing. Cut pieces in even lengths, just a little shorter than the length of the feed chute. Pack the chute carefully and maintain even pressure on the food pusher as the food is being processed.

Q. Why do some pieces of food remain on top of the slice/shred disc?
A. This is normal. Slice or shred those pieces by hand or save for another use, like soups that will be pureed.

Q. Why is soft cheese collecting on top of the slice/shred disc?
A. The cheese was not cold enough. The pressure exerted on the pusher was too great. Be sure soft cheeses are well chilled or place in freezer until knife inserted into cheese penetrates about ½-inch. Remember food pusher is to be used as a guide never exert hard pressure on the food pusher.

Q. How do I clean the food processor?
A. Before cleaning, be sure unit is turned off and cord is unplugged.

  • Completely disassemble processor parts before washing. Whenever possible, rinse parts immediately after processing for easy cleanup.
  • Wipe base and feet with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Stubborn spots can be removed by rubbing with a damp cloth and a mild, nonabrasive cleaner. Do not immerse base in liquid.
  • All removable parts can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher. Hand washing of plastic parts will help to maintain the processor’s appearance.
  • If washing by hand, fill workbowl with hot soapy water and rapidly raise and lower the cutting blade and discs up and down on the center shaft. If your sink has a sprayer nozzle, you will find it helpful in rinsing the blades. If washing in a dishwasher, place removable parts on top rack only – not in or near utensil basket.
  • Some staining of parts may occur. Make a paste of 2 tablespoons baking soda / 1 tablespoon water. Apply to stains and let stand overnight. Rinse and dry.
  • Do not use rough scouring pads or cleansers on any plastic or metal parts. Do not allow blades or discs to soak in water for long periods of time.
  • Remember to clean the internal shaft of the chopping blade use a baby bottle brush to remove any clogged food particles.

Helpful Tip: If you are having trouble closing the cover over the workbowl, apply a small amount of vegetable oil to the rim of the cover and workbowl. This should make the pieces work smoother when attaching the cover to the bowl.

Q. Where can I purchase parts or accessories?

Hand Mixers

Q. Can you tell me what is the best speed to use?
A. Please refer to the following speed guide.

  • Speed 1: For combining ingredients, stirring. If working properly this speed is an advantage in avoiding splashing from the bowl.
  • Speed 2: To stir batters, puddings and gelatin mixtures. Use for cookie doughs, whipping cooked potatoes and blending cream cheese mixtures.
  • Speed 3: Whip squash and blend heavy cream cheese mixtures. Mix packaged cake mixes; for use with dough hooks.
  • Speed 4: Blend and cream butter and sugar; mix batters, cakes, quick breads, muffins and frosting.
  • Speed 5: Whip egg whites and meringues; whip heavy creams; for use with wire whisk.

Q. Are the beaters made of stainless steel or chrome?
A. The beaters are chrome plated and should be washed and dried immediately to prevent rusting and prolong their life. They are dishwasher-safe, however, we suggest hand washing.

Q. What is the best way to begin mixing?
A. Begin with the lowest speed and gradually increase to higher speeds as needed.

Q. What is the best way to whip cream?
A. Place the bowl and beaters or whisk in the freezer for 15 minutes. Pour the cold cream into the bowl. Start on low until cream begins to thicken then increase speed to high until soft peaks form.

Q. Why is the mixer not turning on?
A. Make sure the mixer is plugged into a working outlet, that you have selected a speed and that the beaters are correctly placed in the mixer.

Q. Why do the beaters keep falling from the head of the mixer?
A. If the beaters are not staying in the head of the mixer, be sure to check that they have been installed properly.

Q. My mixer has a Power Boost button. How does it work?
A. The Power Boost button lets you increase mixing speed to the maximum power level from any setting. When you feel the mixer slowing down or straining in tough mixing tasks (such as mixing cookie dough), press Power Boost button. Do not use the Power Boost button for longer than 30 seconds.

Q. How should I use the spatula attachment?
A. The spatula attachment is designed to scrape dry ingredients or batter from the bowl as you mix. Use it when mixing thin (pudding, pancake batter) to medium batters (cake mixes, muffins, frosting) and for whipping mashed potatoes. It is not recommended when beating egg whites, whipping cream or when mixing thick cookie dough. The spatula attachment should not be used with the whisk or dough hook attachments.

Q. Why would the motor stop working?
A. The amount of dough being mixed is too large. Remove half of dough and blend in two portions.

Q. How do I clean my mixer?
A. Be sure mixer is turned off and unplugged before cleaning. Eject beaters, dough hooks or whisk attachments and wash them in hot, soapy water or in a dishwasher. Dry all parts thoroughly before storing. Clean the mixer or cord with a damp cloth. To remove stubborn spots, wipe surfaces with a cloth dampened in hot sudsy water or a mild, nonabrasive cleaner. Follow with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners on any part of mixer as they can damage the finish.

Q. Where can I purchase parts or accessories?
A. Please visit prodprotect.com or call 1-800-738-0245 (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., ET).

Irons

Q. Why won’t my iron heat up?

A.

  • Make sure the iron is plugged into a working outlet.
  • Check that the fabric select dial is set to one of the fabric settings.
  • 3-way automatic shutoff may be activated; gently move the iron to turn it on again.

Q. How do I store the iron?
A. Empty all water from the iron, store in an upright position and loosely coil the cord. Never wrap the cord around the iron.

Q. Why does the temeprature ready light go on and off after the iron is plugged in?
A. The light goes off once the iron reaches selected temperature. The light will then cycle on and off during ironing.

Q. What type of water should I use?
A. We recommend using cool, clean tap water. Do not use water processed through a home softening system.

Q. What should I do when the iron shuts off and does not come back on?
A. Some models have an automatic shutoff feature that will shut off the iron after 30 seconds of inactivity if left on its soleplate or tipped over on its side. If left vertically on its heel rest, it will shut off after 8 minutes of inactivity. If you pick up the iron, an internal motion detector is activated and the iron starts heating again.
Important: Although the iron has turned off, it is still hot.
Helpful Tip: You might have to move the iron or shake it gently to reactivate the thermostat.

Q. Why does the iron not glide over the fabric?
A. If the soleplate is scratched, it will catch on delicate fabrics OR if the ion is set too high, it will catch on the material. For optimum performance, allow the iron to preheat for 90 seconds to allow the thermostat to stabilize and ensure it is set on the proper fabric setting for the type of fabric you are ironing.

Q. How do I use vertical steam?
A. Vertical steam is very useful for steaming curtains and removing wrinkles from hanging garments. To use, be sure water tank is filled to maximum capacity. Hang garment to be steamed on a clothes hanger. Curtains and drapes can be steamed where they are hung. Set fabric select dial to appropriate fabric setting. Hold the iron close to, but not touching the fabric. Using your free hand, pull the fabric tight and pump the steam button as you move the iron over the fabric.

Q. My iron has an AUTO CLEAN® button. How should I use this feature?
A. You should use it about once a month to keep the steam vents free of any buildup. This will help to make your iron last longer. To use, fill the water tank well below the MAX line. Plug in the iron. Select the highest fabric setting and stand the iron on its heel rest. Unplug the iron and hold over a sink with the soleplate facing down. Press and hold the AUTO CLEAN® button. Be careful, as after several seconds, hot water and steam will come out of the steam vents. Continue to hold the AUTO CLEAN® button until all the water has emptied. If necessary, move iron side-to-side and front-to-back. When finished, release the button, stand the iron on its heel rest and plug it in. Heat for about 2 minutes to dry out any remaining water.

Q. What should I do if the iron has not been used for a long time?
A. If the iron has not been used for a while, the steam vents should be cleaned and any deposits removed from the soleplate. To do this, fill the water reservoir with tap water, hold the iron horizontally over a towel or unneeded piece of material and let it steam of the highest fabric setting for about 1 minute. Also press the steam button several times.

Q. How should I determine how to iron the different types of fabrics?
A. Always read garment care label to determine fabric type to iron and adhere to manufacture recommendations for temperature settings. Depending on the model, your iron might have a fabric guide on the heel rest or on the fabric select dial.
Helpful Tip: If unsure of fabric’s fiber content, test a small area (on the inside seam or hem) before proceeding to iron the entire garment or cloth.

Q. How do I clean my iron?
A. Make sure iron is unplugged and has cooled completely. Wipe the soleplate and outer surface with a soft cloth dampened with water. Add mild household detergent. Never use abrasives, heavy-duty cleansers, vinegar or scouring pads that may scratch or discolor the iron. After cleaning, steam iron over an old cloth to remove any residue from the steam vents.

Toaster Ovens

Q. What position should the rack be in for toasting, baking or broiling?
A.

  • For toasting, position the slide rack in the bottom rack-slot. Place the toast directly on the slide rack.
  • When baking, use the 2 middle rack positions and place bake pan on top of slide rack. Be sure food or container is at least 1½ inches away from the top heating elements.
  • For broiling, use the middle rack position for broiling such foods as hamburgers, steaks, fish steaks, chicken parts, garlic bread and cheese toppings on casseroles. Use the top rack position for such foods as fish fillets, chicken cutlets, frankfurters, toasted open-face cheese sandwiches and nachos. Be sure food or container is at least 1½ inches away from the top heating elements.

Q. Can I use aluminum foil in my toaster oven?
A. Yes. If foods require covering, use aluminum foil. When using foil to cover a food, tuck the edges of the foil against the sides of the baking dish or pan.

Q. Can I use a glass baking dish inside the oven?
A. You can use metal, ovenproof glass or ceramic bakeware without glass lids in your oven. Be sure food or container is at least 1½ inches away from the top heating elements.

Q. Which elements should come on during the various settings?
A.When baking or toasting, both heating elements will come. For broiling, only the top elements will come on. When baking, both heating elements will cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature.

  • The toaster oven is plugged into a working electrical outlet.
  • Did you set the timer or have you turned on the Stay On function.
  • Did you use the temperature control knob to select a temperature.
  • Did you set the function knob to the appropriate cooking action.

A. Before cleaning any part, be sure the oven is off, unplugged, and cool. Always dry parts thoroughly before using oven after cleaning. Clean the glass door with a nylon pad and sudsy water. Do not use a spray glass cleaner. Wash the slide rack in sudsy water or in a dishwasher. Wash the bake pan in sudsy water. Us a polyester or nylon pad to minimize scratches. Wash the sides with hot sudsy water.

To clean crumb tray:
Dispose of crumbs and wash the tray in hot soapy water and dry thoroughly.

To clean exterior surfaces:
Be sure the oven has cooled completely before wiping the top and exterior walls with a damp cloth or sponge. Dry thoroughly.

Helpful Cleaning Tip: To refresh air inside oven, lay strips of orange or lemon peel on rack. Heat oven to 350°F and bake for 30 minutes. Turn oven off and let stand until oven is completely cool. Remove peel.
Note: We strongly recommend that the bake pan/drip tray and the broil rack be washed by hand with hot sudsy water, as opposed to washing in the dishwasher. Washing these pieces in the dishwasher will cause them to discolor, but will not affect their functionality.
