When it comes to buying a coffeemaker, most people think that a cone-shaped filter equals better flavor in your coffee. But does a cone-shaped filter really make for a better cup?
In truth the best cup of coffee is a product of a variety of factors, so simply getting a cone filter doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a better cup of coffee. After years of testing and trying both, the Black & Decker test kitchen and engineers created a basket-shaped filter system that brews the best cup of coffee in town.
Why the Black & Decker basket works
The big problem that cone filters try to solve is that the water doesn’t distribute evenly over the grounds, so only a portion of the coffee in the basket gets extracted properly. However, this problem can also be solved by changing the design of the showerhead.
The showerhead is the part on your coffeemaker that distributes the water over the grounds in the filter. If the showerhead is wider with more holes, then it saturates the coffee more evenly. Black & Decker focused on redesigning the showerhead, so the basket is covered fully by the head when the lid of the coffeemaker is closed.
In addition to the showerhead, the basket itself is designed to allow for maximum flavor extraction The bottom of the basket where the water drips into the carafe is specially designed on Black & Decker coffeemakers to allow the water to saturate the grounds for the right amount of time before it drips.
The final piece to the Black & Decker brew system is the optimal brewing temperature. We’ll explain more on this feature in a later post. To find the right Black & Decker coffeemaker, simply click on this coffeemakers link to see all of our basket-shaped filter systems.
